Everett - November 7, 2013 - Josh Winquist stayed hot with three more points as he joined linemates Manraj Hayer and Tyler Sandhu in propelling the Everett Silvertips to a 3-1 victory over the Kamloops Blazers Wednesday evening at at Comcast Arena.

The ‘Tips improve to 12-3-2-0 on the season with the win, which also moves Everett within three points of the U.S. Division lead heading into Friday’s home game against the Tri-City Americans.

Extending his point streak to six games with another three-point night (1g/2a), Winquist brings his total to 18 points in the past six games and 30 for the season to tie for fourth in the WHL in scoring.

Manraj Hayer recorded a goal and an assist on the night and Tyler Sandhu added two helpers as both extended their point streaks to six games as well.

Goaltender Daniel Cotton (3-1-1-0) turned away 17 shots and was just over a minute away from his second straight shutout when Kamloops got on the scoreboard.

Everett controlled play and outshot Kamloops 17-6 in the first period, but held only a 1-0 lead. Despite the plethora of shots, the ‘Tips first goal came during a 4-on-3 powerplay in the last minute of the frame. After an offensive-zone faceoff win, Ivan Nikolishin carried the puck into the slot and took a shot that went in off a Blazer in front to open the scoring.

The Silvertips tacked on two more in the second to extend their lead to three. Tyler Sandhu’s shot off a Josh Winquist pass across the slot was initially stopped, but he picked up his own rebound and fed it back to Winquist for a goal into the open net at 6:37. Everett’s third goal came later in the period on a nice passing play from Sandhu behind the net to Winquist on the boards, where he crossed the puck to Manraj Hayer for his tenth of the season on the one-timer. Shots were 31-14 in favor of the ‘Tips after 40 minutes.

Everett stayed in control through the third period and stood only 1:12 away from their second straight shutout victory when Aspen Sterzer cut toward the net from the left boards off the rush and stuffed in a shot to break the shutout bid for Daniel Cotton. Final shots were 38-18 as the Silvertips held onto a 3-1 victory.

Goaltender Taran Kozun (1-7-1-0) stopped 35 of 38 shots in net for the Blazers. Everett went 1 for 5 on the powerplay while shutting down Kamloops on their only opportunity.

Next up for the Silvertips is a home-and-home weekend set against the Tri-City Americans, which starts Friday night at 7:35 pm at Comcast Arena. The ‘Tips will then visit the Americans Saturday night before returning for four home games next including, including our first-ever Veteran’s Day matinee game Monday afternoon at 2:05 against the Vancouver Giants.
