Kitchener - October 19, 2013 - Nick Magyar scored the first two goals of his Ontario Hockey League career for the Kitchener Rangers in a 6-2 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday night. Curtis Meighan, Radek Faksa and Brent Pedersen each earned an assist for the Rangers.
Kitchener opened the scoring before the midway point of the first period. Rookie forward Nick Magyar carried the puck to the net and lifted a shot over the glove hand of Kingston starter Matt Mahalak. The goal was the Mentor, OH native's first career Ontario Hockey League tally and gave the Rangers an early 1-0 lead. Curtis Meighan earned an assist on the play.
The Frontenacs responded just over three minutes later, as Spencer Watson beat Kitchener netminder Tyson Teichmann to pick up his fourth of the season. The play was assisted by import forward Henri Ikonen and team scoring leader Sam Bennett.
The Rangers out-shot the Frontenacs 12-11 in the opening period of play.
Watson's second of the game put Kingston ahead 2-1 at the 6:13 mark of the middle frame. The unassisted goal was his fifth of the year and fourth in his last three games played.
The Frontenacs added a third goal just past the 13 minute mark when Ikonen slid a pass across the front of the net to Bennett, who snapped the puck past the reaching glove of Teichmann. Waterloo Wolves grad Mike Moffatt also assisted on Bennett's team-leading ninth of the season.
Ikonen put Kingston up 4-1 headed into the intermission, recording his third point of the game with a goal at 19:24. Bennett dug the puck out of the corner and found the Finnish winger beside the Rangers net. He lifted a shot from his knee over Teichmann, tallying his fourth goal of the year. Watson also collected his third point of the game with a helper on the play.
Frontenacs led shots on goal 16-10 in the second period.
Bennett scored his second of the game early in the third period, pushing Kingston to a four-goal lead. The draft eligible forward's fourth point of the night drew assists from Watson and Ikonen.
The Rangers responded quickly, getting the goal back 90 seconds later. Magyar collected the puck from Brent Pedersen's skates and shot it through Mahalak for his second of the game. Radek Faksa was also credited with a helper on Magyar's second career goal.
Sam Povorozniouk sealed a 6-2 Frontenacs win with a power play goal at 8:34. The third year winger's fourth of the year was assisted by Darcy Greenaway.
