A five point/four goal performance from Oliver Bjorkstrand, coupled with a four assist night from defenceman Garrett Haar proved to be more than enough the Portland Winterhawks, in routing the Seattle Thunderbirds by a score of 10-4 in Saturday night WHL action.

Portland - September 29, 2013 - Oliver Bjorkstrand scored four goals as the Portland Winterhawks (2-1-0-1) earned a 10-4 victory over the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds (3-1-0-0) Saturday in front of 7,062 fans at the Moda Center.

The Winterhawks opened the scoring at the 11:45 mark of the first when Adam Rossignol slid a pass in front of the Seattle net to Adam de Champlain, who tipped it past netminder Danny Mumaugh to make it 1-0.

The Hawks extended the lead at the 17:43 mark while shorthanded when Bjorkstrand sidestepped a Seattle defenseman and beat Mumaugh to make it 2-0 through one period.

Midway through the second Chase De Leo took a shot that squirted through Mumaugh, and Taylor Leier reached past the goaltender to knock it in to give Portland a 3-0 lead at the 10:26 mark. Less than two minutes later Bjorkstrand scored his second shorthanded goal of the night when he carried the puck out of his own zone and flew up the middle of the ice past two Seattle defensemen and beat Mumaugh on the breakaway to make it 4-0.

The Hawks added one more on a power play with under a minute to go in the period when Chase De Leo fed a cross-ice pass to Nic Petan, who fired it past Mumaugh to make it 5-0 going into the third.

Petan struck again early in the third when he stepped out of the penalty box, took a stretch pass from Layne Viveiros and scored on the breakaway to make it 6-0. Just 47 seconds later de Champlain scored his second of the game on a shot from the left faceoff circle to extend the lead to 7-0, and Bjorkstrand completed the hat trick at the 6:02 mark to make it an 8-0 lead. He added his fourth of the game at the 8:27 mark to give Portland a 9-0 lead.

Seattle got on the board at the 10:37 mark on a power play goal by Alexander Delnov, and followed with a goal from Shea Theodore to make it 9-2.

Portland’s Keegan Iverson scored off a rebound to make it 10-2 on a power play at the 14:36 mark, followed by a goal from Seattle’s Mathew Barzal to make it 10-3. Theodore scored his second of the game late in the third to wrap up the scoring in a 10-4 Portland victory.

Bjorkstrand finished with four goals and an assist for five points. Garrett Haar had four assists in the win, while De Leo, de Champlain, Rossignol and Petan all finished with three points apiece.

Brendan Burke earned the win in net with 34 saves on 38 shots. Mumaugh allowed six goals on 25 shots before being replaced by Justin Myles, who allowed four goals on 13 shots.

The Hawks were 2-9 on the power play, and 6-7 on the penalty kill with two shorthanded goals.

The Hawks are back in action Wednesday when they host the Spokane Chiefs at 7 p.m. at the Moda Center.
