Edmonton - September 29, 2013 - An early third period collapse Sunday cost the Edmonton Oil Kings two points against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Oil Kings (2-2-0-0) controlled the play for most of the game Sunday afternoon at Rexall Place, doubling-up the Hurricanes (1-2-0-1) on the shot clock, but gave up three goals in 42 seconds early in the third period to fall 5-3.

Edmonton had the puck for most of the afternoon, but struggled to solve Lethbridge netminder Corbin Boes, who made 39 saves to get the win. It wasn’t until 8:34 into the second period that, on the team’s 29th shot, Mitch Moroz broke the goose egg with his second goal of the season, tying the game 1-1 after a first period goal from Lethbridge’s Jamal Watson.

Brett Pollock also scored in the second, notching a power-play goal to give the Oil Kings the lead, but, four minutes into the third period, Tyler Wong, Brady Ramsay and Axel Blomqvist all beat Oil Kings goalie Tristan Jarry in rapid succession to give Lethbridge the lead.

Mitch Moroz tightened the score to 4-3 with his second of the night on a nifty breakaway move, but Russ Maxwell iced it for Lethbridge with an empty net goal.

Jarry finished with 16 saves in a losing effort, while the Edmonton power-play went 1-4. The Oil Kings penalty kill unit killed off all seven Hurricanes advantages in the game.

Edmonton now hits the road for a week, playing their next three games away from Rexall. Wednesday night they are in Brandon to take on the Wheat Kings.

Notes: Curtis Lazar, Griffin Reinhart, Mads Eller, Brandon Ralph and Andrew Koep were scratched for the Oil Kings.
