Kerby Rychel led the charge with a five-point night, as the Spitfires exploded offensively in an 8-4 win over the Erie Otters Saturday night at the WFCU Centre. It was the first win of the season for Windsor (1-2-0-0). Dalen Kuchmey made 32 saves for the win in his first OHL start.

Windsor - September 29, 2013 - Kerby Rychel led the charge with a five-point night, as the Spitfires exploded offensively in an 8-4 win over the Erie Otters Saturday night at the WFCU Centre.

It was the first win of the season for Windsor (1-2-0-0).

The Otters struck early in the first period on the power play, on a goal by Connor Brown at 2:32. But the lead wouldn’t last long.

Brady Vail (2G, 2A) and Nikita Yazkov each scored their first goal, giving the Spits their first lead of the season.

“Tonight we dominated,” said Vail. “Our best players were our best players. Everyone came to play and Kuchmey had a great game in net.”

Two goals in the first four minutes of the second period, including another one by Vail, extended the Windsor lead to three goals.

Erie would make it 4-2 at 8:57 of the second frame, but Kerby Rychel’s second of the night, followed by Ben Johnson’s first of the season, less than a minute later, gave the Spitfires a 6-2 lead heading into the third period.

“Obviously when they’re going in it’s a good feeling,” said Rychel. Rychel (3G, 2A) would add a third goal to complete the hat-trick and seal the win for Dalen Kuchmey, who made 32 saves in his first OHL start.

“It feels amazing,” said Kuchmey. “I waited two years and it feels great to finally get my first start and my first win.”

The Spitfires are back in action when they host the Plymouth Whalers at the WFCU Centre Thursday, October 3rd.
