Rangers defeat Otters 3-2 in preseason action
The Kitchener Rangers earned a 3-2 exhibition win over the Erie Otters on Friday night. Nick Magyar, Max Iafrate and Eric Ming all scored from the Rangers and Josh Sterk added a pair of assists in the win. The Otters opened the scoring near the midway mark of the first period.

Kitchener - September 14, 2013 - The Kitchener Rangers earned a 3-2 exhibition win over the Erie Otters on Friday night. Nick Magyar, Max Iafrate and Eric Ming all scored from the Rangers and Josh Sterk added a pair of assists in the win.

The Otters opened the scoring near the midway mark of the first period. Defenceman Patrick Murphy corralled the puck behind the Rangers net and manoeuvred in front, firing a high shot over the right shoulder of Kitchener starter Tyson Teichmann. Assists on the play were credited to Blake Jones and Quentin Maksimovich.

Erie out-shot the Rangers 10-9 through the first 20 minutes of play.

The Rangers pulled even in the second period, when Nick Magyar tipped Josh Sterk’s point shot over Erie netminder Daniel Dekoning for his second of the preseason. Josh Sterk assisted on the play.

Kitchener jumped ahead 2-1 before the end of the middle frame when rearguard Max Iafrate fired a long shot high over the glove of Dekoning. Sterk earned his second helper of the game on the power play goal at 12:19.

The Rangers led shots on goal 13-10 in the second period.

A quick third period tally on the man advantage extended the Rangers lead to 3-1. Veteran Eric Ming bounced a puck over the pad of Dekoning, with assists from Frank Hora and Curtis Meighan.

Erie cut the Rangers lead to one late in the third period, taking advantage of a power play opportunity. Darren Raddysh chipped the put high off the crossbar and in, with assists from Kyle Pettit and Nick Betz.

The Rangers out-shot the Otters 14-11 in the final frame and finished with a 37-33 overall advantage on the shot clock.

Kitchener is now 2-2 in preseason action. The exhibition season concludes Saturday, September 14 against Niagara.
