Maple Leafs sign Kadri to two-year extension
The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed center Nazem Kadri to a two-year contract, the team announced Tuesday. TSN reports the deal is worth $5.8 million. Kadri, 22, finished second on the Maple Leafs in scoring last season with 44 points (18 goals, 26 assists) in 48 games. A restricted free agent, he was not eligible for arbitration after completing his entry-level contract.

Toronto - September 10, 2013 - The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed center Nazem Kadri to a two-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.

TSN reports the deal is worth $5.8 million.

"Happy to be with the Leafs for the next couple years," Kadri wrote on his verified Twitter account (@43_Kadri). "Looking forward to camp. #leafnation #bestnation"

Kadri, 22, finished second on the Maple Leafs in scoring last season with 44 points (18 goals, 26 assists) in 48 games. A restricted free agent, he was not eligible for arbitration after completing his entry-level contract.

Kadri was Toronto’s first-round pick (No. 7) at the 2009 NHL Draft.

The Maple Leafs also are trying to sign restricted free agent defenseman Cody Franson. The 26-year-old had four goals and 25 assists in 45 games last season.

The Maple Leafs start training camp Wednesday.
