Barrie - September 3, 2013 - Barrie Colts General Manager Jason Fordannounced today that Josh Carrick, Andrew Mangiapane and Cordell James have all committed to the Colts, entering into Ontario Hockey League agreements with the Club.

Defenceman Josh Carrick was originally selected by the Barrie Colts in the 7th round, 142nd overall in 2012. Last season he spent the year with the Stouffville Spirit Jr. A team where he collected 1 goal and 6 assists in 51 games played.

"Josh showed poise with the puck throughout camp. He is a competitive kid that skates very well and he continues to display a willingness to become involved in the physical play. He is a character player who improved each day in camp," said Colts GM Jason Ford.

Carrick was also selected to compete for Team Canada East at the CJHL Top Prospect game last season in Yarmouth Nova Scotia. Josh comes from a family with strong ties to the Ontario Hockey League as brothers Trevor, Sam and Jake have all spent time in the league.

Free agent forward Andrew Mangiapane has also committed to the Barrie Colts and is a welcomed addition to the organization. The skilled and speedy winger from Bolton, ON spent last year with the Toronto Jr. Canadians Midget AAA team. In 24 games Mangiapane registered 17 goals and 10 assists for 27 points while picking up 16 PIMS.

"Andrew was one of the most pleasant surprises at camp; a 17 year-old free agent with tremendous hockey sense and he can really skate. He is tenacious on pucks, and has very good stick skills. He is a hard-working kid that loves the game and brings the energy level up every time he steps on the ice,” said Ford.

The 5’10”, 160lbs forward has looked promising during his time in Barrie and joins an already gifted crop of young talent within the Colts organization.

Barrie’s 5th round pick from 2012, forward Cordell James has also committed to the Colts signing an Ontario Hockey League agreement. James spent last season with the Stoney Creek Warriors of the GOJHL where he registered 12 goals, 20 assists for 32 points in 49 games.

"Cordell benefited from plenty of ice-time and a strong year with the Stoney Creek Jr. B Warriors. He has good size, skates well, and is a very responsible and smart player. He is a very coach-able and competitive kid that has gone the right way since his draft year,"

The Hamilton, ON native comes with a 6’1”, 192lbs frame and will play a key role for the Colts for years to come.
