Williams scores twice but Americans still fall to Royals
Despite Brian Williams two-goal effort the Tri City Americans were unable find that elusive first pre-season victory, falling by a score of 3-2 to the Victory Royals. With the loss the Americans finished up this weekend’s Holiday Inn Preseason Classic tournament in Everett with a disappointing 0-3 record.

Everett - September 1, 2013 - Despite Brian Williams two-goal effort the Tri City Americans were unable find that elusive first pre-season victory losing its third straight game to the Victory Royals Sunday morning at the Comcast Arena in Everett.

The Americans got off to a quick start when Williams took a pass from Ty Comrie and snapped it past Royal’s goaltender Patrik Polivka just 17 seconds into the game.

However a late first period goal by Matthew Campese knotted the game at one after 20 minutes.

In the second period it was the Royals drawing first blood with a Trent Lofthouse power play goal giving Victoria its first lead of the morning.

It looked as though Victoria would take that lead into the intermission but late penalty trouble for the Royals gave Tri City a 5-on-3 man advantage where Williams capitalized on the rebound from Mitch Topping’s outside shot tying the game at two after 40 minutes.

Lofthouse put the winning goal away for the Royals with a one timer between the faceoff circles at the 5:15 mark of the third period. For the second consecutive day the Americans found itself in late penalty trouble having to kill off two consecutive two-man advantages in the last five minutes. While the team successfully killed these penalties off it was unable to come up with tying goal late in the game.

Eric Comrie played the entire game for the Americans making 31 saves on the day while his Victoria counterpart Polivka checked in with 21 saves on his way to the pre-season victory.

The Tri City Americans will head back to Kennewick in preparation for its next pre-season game against the Kootenay Ice at the Red Lions Pre Season Tournament Thursday night at the Toyota Center for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff.

The Americans will also be in action Friday and Saturday night when it takes on the Seattle Thunderbirds and Spokane Chiefs respectively.
