Portland - August 30, 2013 - The Portland Winterhawks have signed highly-touted 16-year-old forward Ethan Price, who will join the team this season.

Price spent last season with the Omaha Lancers AAA 16U team of the North American Prospects Hockey League, where he led his team with 38 points (15 goals, 23 assists) in 22 games.

His 38 points also tied him for sixth in the league, and he was named to the NAPHL 16U’s First Team.

“Ethan plays a physical game while also possessing very good offensive skills,” said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. “He has been a proven scorer at every level but it’s his energy and work ethic that catch your attention.”

Price participated in the USA National Festival in July and was selected for the All-Star Game among the top-40 players in the country in his age group. A native of Lincoln, Nebraska, he was selected by the Winterhawks in the sixth round of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, 130th overall.

Price is the latest highly-rated American-born player to join the Winterhawks in recent seasons, including current Hawks Paul Bittner (Minnesota), Brendan Burke (Arizona), Chase De Leo (California), Josh Hanson (Alaska), Keegan Iverson (Minnesota), Alex Schoenborn (North Dakota), Keoni Texeira (California) and Dominic Turgeon (Colorado).

Apart from Hanson, each of those players has at least three years of WHL eligibility remaining.
