Vancouver - August 22, 2013 - The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenseman Christopher Tanev, the team announced Thursday.

Iain MacIntyre of the Vancouver Sun reported the deal is for one season at $1.5 million. Tanev, 23, was a restricted free agent after scoring two goals and seven points in 38 games for the Canucks in 2012-13. He was fifth among the team's regular defensemen with an average of 17:17 of ice time per game.

Tanev (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) missed the end of the season and the team's first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series against the San Jose Sharks with a lower-body injury.

Canucks President & General Manager Michael D. Gillis also announced that the Canucks have re-signed defenceman Andrew Alberts.

Alberts, 32, appeared in 24 games in 2012.13, recording one assist, 32 penalty minutes and 39 hits. The 6’5”, 218-pound defenceman has appeared in 449 career games, recording 55 points (8-47-55) and 492 penalty minutes over the span of eight NHL seasons with the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and Canucks.

The Minneapolis, MN, native was originally selected 179th overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins.
