Anaheim - August 21, 2013 - Sheldon Souray suffered a torn ligament in his right wrist while working out (off the ice) on July 17. He had surgery to repair the damage at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles on July 25 (Dr. Steven Shin).

With the veteran blueliner expected to be out of action four-to-six months (from the time of surgery), the club dipped into the free agent pool for his replacement.

Former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Mark Fistric agreed to a one-year contract through the 2013-14 NHL season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

Fistric, 27 (6/1/86), has scored 3-26=29 points with a +26 rating and 252 penalty minutes (PIM) in 282 career NHL games with the Stars and Oilers. He has also appeared in nine career Stanley Cup Playoff games with Dallas in 2008, going scoreless with six PIM. The Edmonton, Alberta native set several career highs with the Stars in 2009-10, including points (10), assists (9), plus/minus (+27) and appearances (67).

Selected by Dallas in the first round (28th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Fistric scored 0-6=6 points with a +6 rating and 32 PIM in 25 games with Edmonton last season. The 6-2, 233-pound defensemen was acquired from Dallas on Jan. 14, 2013 in exchange for a third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He ranked third on the Oilers in plus/minus and hits (88), fifth in PIM and blocked shots (53).
