Mississauga - August 15, 2013 - The Mississauga Steelheads are pleased to announce that their 2nd round pick from the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, Jesse Barwell, has committed to the team and has signed an Ontario Hockey League agreement.

Barwell was chosen by the Steelheads in the 2nd round, 26th overall after recording 34 goals and 45 assists in 71 games played with the OHL Cup winning Oakville Rangers minor midget team. Earlier this year the Oakville, Ontario native participated in the 2013 OHL Gold Cup tournament, posting 3 goals and 1 assist in 5 games for team OMHA White. Steelheads Head Coach and GM, James Boyd describes the 5’10”, 175lb centre as “a smart, skilled player with a great work ethic. It is exciting to add a player of his caliber to our existing line-up.”

Barwell, who was on hand at the Hershey Centre on Monday with his family is looking forward to his future with the Steelheads and getting things started at training camp. “I’m really excited to be here this year and for the opportunity to play with some of the new draftees and veterans. I look forward to helping the team be successful and to be a part of this great organization.”

Along with first round pick, Sean Day and second round pick Austin Gerhart, the Mississauga Steelheads have signed their top three picks from the 2013 Priority Selection.

The Steelheads welcome Jesse and his family to the Mississauga Steelheads organization.
