Meatloaf Monday - Spits enjoy perfect weekend!
To celebrate a perfect weekend (well done, boys!!), today’s Meatloaf Monday column is devoted entirely to the Windsor Spitfires. The Spits are on a roll. After going 3-0 this weekend, they find themselves only six points out of first place in the West Division, with a game in hand. Goaltender Alex Fotinos has continued his strong play since being acquired earlier this season, and over the weekend posted a 1.67 GAA.

Windsor - November 18, 2013 - To celebrate a perfect weekend (well done, boys!!), today’s Meatloaf Monday column is devoted entirely to the Windsor Spitfires.

The Spits are on a roll. After going 3-0 this weekend, they find themselves only six points out of first place in the West Division, with a game in hand. With victories over Mississauga (6-0 Thursday), Peterborough (5-4 Saturday) and Oshawa (4-1 Sunday) the Spits have now won 11 of their past 12 games. Goaltender Alex Fotinos has continued his strong play since being acquired earlier this season, and over the weekend posted a 1.67 GAA. The combined record of Fotinos (3-0 when acquired) and Dalen Kuchmey is 16-2 so far this season, and it says here that the Spits have one of the best goaltending tandems in the OHL.

In other Spitfires news, rookie Ryan Foss has five goals in the last three games. Thursday night against Mississauga, he scored his first OHL goal, and then added two more, giving him his first OHL hat trick as well. Congratulations, Ryan!

Be sure to tune in to CTV Sportsnet this Thursday night for the Subway Super Series. The game between Team Canada and Team Russia will feature an OHL team of star players, including Windsor Spitfires captain Kerby Rychel and defenseman Slater Koekkoek. The game, to be played in Oshawa, should be a dandy. Good luck, fellas!

In the latest International Scouting Service rankings, Spits forward Josh Ho-Sang has climbed 12 spots, and now sits at 14 on the list of top 30 prospects for the 2014 NHL Draft.Congratulations, Josh!

From the injury department, forward Ben Johnson is expected to play this Friday in the game at Guelph’s Sleeman Centre. D-man Adam Bateman has been skating at practice and is hoping to see game action soon.

As of this morning, three Spits are in the top twenty in points for defensemen. Slater Koekkoek sits fourth with 20 points, followed by Nick Ebert (T-8th) with 16 points, and Eric Diodati ( T-11th) with 13 points. Way to go, guys!

This weekend, the Spits play Friday night in Guelph (CTV Sportsnet Ontario), Saturday night in London (TV Cogeco) and Sunday afternoon at the WFCU Centre as they host division rival the Plymouth Whalers. Tickets are still available.

Speaking of tickets, have you got yours for the OHL Winter Classic yet? If not, what are you waiting for? The Spits will take on the Saginaw Spirit on Sunday December 29th at Detroit’s Comerica Park.

Have an awesome Meatloaf Monday, and If you’re going to go see my friends at Medel Brothers, leave two for me!
