Earlier this week the Windsor Spitfires unveiled the sweater the team will wear in the upcoming Winter Classic game at Comerica Park. It’s a throwback to the sweater the team wore between 1976 and 1984, and it’s a beauty! It takes me back to days when I first started following the team. Seeing the sweater was like running into an old friend. Godden, Barnes, Melanson, Barrett, Leroux and Kotsopoulos were just some of the guys I can remember who wore that sweater. It’s the number one thing on my Christmas list this year.

Windsor - November 11, 2013 - Recently I was asked “Why do you call your random thoughts column “Meatloaf Monday Random Thoughts”? Good question. But here’s the easy answer. It goes back to last winter, and it started with a trip to my neighbourhood butcher shop, Medel Brothers Quality Meats, on Dominion Blvd in South Windsor. I was there to find something quick and easy for dinner, and one of the girls suggested the meat loaf that they prepare. So easy, even I could do it. She was right. And my family and I were hooked! We have meat loaf from Medel’s pretty much every Monday now.

While on the subject of the Spits, their seven game winning streak came to an end against the same team it started against. The London Knights came to town and beat the boys 3-1 Sunday afternoon at the WFCU Centre. Can’t win ‘em all, time to start a new streak this Thursday.

Saturday night at LaSalle’s Vollmer Centre there was a benefit game for Kevin Siddall. The Windsor teen was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and has been undergoing blood transfusions and other medical procedures in Toronto and London. The game featured Kevin’s Windsor Junior Spitfires and the LaSalle Sabres. Family, friends and supporters were encouraged to wear lime green, the colour of lymphoma awareness. The rink was a sea of green, and those who attended showed their support by buying raffle tickets and FFK (Fight For Kevin) wrist bands. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Kevin, get well soon!

In closing, today is Remembrance Day, and I want to salute the many Veterans who have served this wonderful country of ours. The sacrifices these men and women made to ensure our freedom are greatly appreciated, and I would humbly like to say thank you to all of you. God bless you all.
