Wilkes-Barre Scranton - November 11, 2013 - WBS went on a road trip to Springfield to take on the Falcons this afternoon looking to fix the problems from the other night, John Hynes wanting a better start for tonight’s game but didn’t get it Springfield seemed to get the jump instead.

Springfield gets the first power play of the game as Simon Despres takes a cross checking penalty, Gibbons and Ebbett get a short handed chance but didn’t get everything they needed killed some valuable time on the PK. Jeff Deslauriers makes some great saves keeping the Falcons out of the Penguins net.

WBS gives Springfield the second power play of the game with 6:19 left in the period Tom Kostopoulos would sit for a hook bring out the Pens PK for the second time this period. Just after the Pens kill one Mike Carman heads for the bin giving the Falcons their third power play this period and guess what, you guessed it three is the charm for the Falcons Tim Erixon makes it one to none in Springfield.

Just as the Penguins start back up Brian Gibbons gets called for interference putting the Falcons on their fourth power play of the period and I tweeted that they were heading down the wrong lane and in need of a u–turn and then it happened Falcons scored again with just seconds left on the PK making it 2-0 to end the first period.

Falcons start the second on yet another power play as Thompson sits for unsportsmanlike at the end of the first Then nearing the end of the PP WBS takes another giving the Falcons a short 5 on 3 then 5 on 4 but draw a penalty creating 1:16 of 4×4 the a short 5 on4 for WBS.

The Penguins take advantage of the 4×4 hockey Simon Despres smokes one past Smith cutting the Falcons lead in half now 2-1 Springfield. Falcons capitalize on a bad clear and sneak one past Jeff Deslauriers making it 3-1 Springfield. Samuelsson and Aleardi get together but Samuelsson would get called heading to the bin for a rough giving the falcons yet another power play.

Just as I tweeted the comment above Chris Conner goes to the bin for a WBS bench minor get this “Abuse of Official” giving the Falcons their eighth yes 8th power play of the game and yes still the second period, but the Pens kill it. Not long after the kill we have a square dance as tempers flare Melart goes after Gibbons then Zolnierczyk goes after Melart as the officials try to sort it out Ebbett, I am guessing starts at the officials draws a penalty here is how it looked on the score sheet ( stats from theahl.com) Gibbons Wbs (roughing), 17:36; Zolnierczyk Wbs (roughing, fighting), 17:36; Melart Spr (roughing, roughing, fighting), 17:36.

Then a little more scuffles and the Pens end up on the power play a 5×3 no less and they take advantage of it as Brian Dumoulin gets the tally making it 3-2 and still the Pens are on the PP. Darryl Boyce gets called for delay of game putting the Pens on a 5×3 to start the 3rd.

As the Penguins get going in the third nothing happening with the 5x 3 as they go in to the 5×4 Gibbons takes a shot from Will Weber face first into the glass and ends up face down on the ice had to be helped off, Springfield would kill all the power play the Pens accumulated at the end of the second.

The Pens get an even up chance as Goloubef would sit for a slash putting WBS on the PP then Bass would get called for interference on Uher creating a 5×3 for WBS thier 3rd of the game, the 5×3 expires WBS still looking on the 5×4 and just as the power play expired Simon Despres puts it home making it three all and going on HTA.

Ebbett falls down as he tries to clear the zone but it never makes it out Springfield takes advantage and scores the go ahead goal now leading 4-3. With just under 2 minutes the Penguins empty the net and go for broke but come up short, losing today 4-3 against the Falcons. Here is the video snippets from today’s game.
