Buffalo Sabres release the worst jersey of the last 15 years
If there were a textbook to be written on hockey jerseys, the Buffalo Sabres would be featured in it. They may even get their own chapter. That chapter would be titled “What Not To Do”. What the Sabres revealed on Wednesday was the exact opposite of the perfection the Minnesota Wild showed off on Sunday. The best way to describe it? A mess!

Toronto - September 4, 2013 - If there were a textbook to be written on hockey jerseys, the Buffalo Sabres would be featured in it. They may even get their own chapter. That chapter would be titled “What Not To Do”.

What the Sabres revealed on Wednesday was the exact opposite of the perfection the Minnesota Wild showed off on Sunday. This new alternate sweater has lines going no where and starting at random spots. The front of the jersey is a different colour than the back. The best way to describe it? A mess!

From the front, the jersey appears to be yellow with blue running down the sleeves. Once you take a look at the back of the jersey, the blue from the sleeves continues all the way down to the hem trim which creates a “cape effect”. I did not realize the entire Buffalo Sabres roster were superheroes.

Just above the crest is the city name, BUFFALO. At least they used the classic crest though. There are big grey cuffs that cut-off the blue sleeves and flanking those blue sleeves is a silver stripe that just sort of starts out of no where. That is right, this jersey uses both grey and silver and it is the disaster you would expect.

The only positive thing I have to say about this jersey is the way the captains’ letters will be displayed. The C and the A’s will be above two crossed sabre swords and heavily outlined in blue. Because the letters are yellow and the front of the jersey is yellow, some jersey enthusiasts have theorized that the captain letters will appear on the shoulders instead of the traditional placement on the chest.

The designers of this jersey may have tried a “thinking outside of the box” approach. That method very rarely works and in this instance not only has it not worked, but it has fallen flat on its face in a pile of mud. How can any player skate out on to the ice and have respect for the jersey on their back? That jersey is supposed to represent the team that you give every ounce of effort for. How can anyone feel any kind of pride wearing that “cape thing”?

Some of the jerseys from the 1990’s can stand alone as the worst of all-time. However, this new Buffalo Sabres alternate may have etched its place as the worst jersey of the last 15 years.

My rating: 1/10
