Quebec Remparts reveal new sweaters
On Monday, the Quebec Remparts (QMJHL) revealed their new sweaters which will debut on the ice in the upcoming 2013-14 season. Several players were on hand at the small outdoor press conference to show off the new look. The most noticeable change could be the removal of the “vintage white” or “wheat” colour in favour of true white. The red and black remain the same.

Quebec - August 12, 2013 - On Monday, the Quebec Remparts (QMJHL) revealed their new sweaters which will debut on the ice in the upcoming 2013-14 season. Several players were on hand at the small outdoor press conference to show off the new look.

The most noticeable change could be the removal of the “vintage white” or “wheat” colour in favour of true white. The red and black remain the same. As with the previous Remparts’ jerseys, these ones maintain a very classic look. There are three stripes on the arms and hem, along with the very popular lace up collar. Squared off shoulder yokes are used instead of the traditional rounded ones. The squared yokes are flanked by a thick red stripe on both the front and back of the sweater. The font used for names and numbers will remain the same as the previous jerseys, which take after the New Jersey Devils.

The Remparts stayed true to their classic style with these new sweaters. History has proven that simple arm and hem stripes work on hockey jerseys. While some may critique the Remparts for being too conservative, I applaud them for recognizing what works and then doing that right.

The sweaters appear to be a combination of the New York Rangers’ shoulder yokes and the Boston Bruins striping pattern. It’s a combination that works well, especially for the Remparts’ traditional style. I believe that this truly is a timeless look that can work for the Remparts for many years.

As a hockey traditionalist myself, the Remparts have made me a fan of their jerseys. This new set, with its traditional elements, makes this team appear as if they have been in the league for 50 years…not 16. It’s really hard to find anything wrong with what they have created here.

I rate new jerseys on a scale of 1-10.

My rating: 8/10
