Windsor - December 10, 2014 - These days, as Jonathan Bernier goes, so go the Toronto Maple Leafs. Starting his career high ninth straight game, Bernier led the Blue and White to a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames Tuesday night. Bernier was stellar, shutting down the Flames in the first period, as Calgary out-chanced the Leafs with several quality chances.

After Bernier stopped Johnny Gaudreau point blank, the Leafs made it 1-0 on a Peter Holland goal, set up by Joffrey Lupul and David Clarkson.

In the second period, the Leafs came out hitting on all cylinders, and carried the play for the most part, outshooting Calgary 10-1 by the ten minute mark. Nazem Kadri set up James Van Riemsdyk to make it 2-0 Leafs. Dion Phaneuf also assisted on the goal, marking the first time the Leafs captain has scored a point against his former team.

Calgary got on the board in the third, on a goal by Markus Granlund, who beat Bernier on the power play for the Flames only goal. This season, the third period has belonged Calgary, as they have outscored their opponents 40-16. The Flames had the Leafs on their heels in the third, but Bernier stood tall. The Flames pulled goalie Jonas Hiller for the sixth attacker, but Phil Kessel sealed the deal with an empty netter after two more great Bernier saves. Mike Santorelli scored another empty net goal to complete the scoring.

Random Game Thoughts

Nazem Kadri had a great game, and after Bernier, was the Leafs best player tonight.

Leafs are now 12-0 when scoring the first goal of the game, and 9-0 when James Van Riemsdyk scores.

Joffrey Lupul has 8 points (4G, 4A) in the five games he has played since returning from injury.

The Leafs now head to the Motor City to renew their rivalry with the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night. Stay tuned.
