Windsor - June 25, 2015 - Windsor Spitfires General Manager Warren Rychel is pleased to announce the club has reached an agreement on a standard OHL player agreement and education package with forward Gabriel Vilardi.

The 15-year-old native of Kingston was the club's first round pick, 2nd overall, in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection back in April.

"We're extremely pleased to get Gabe in the fold," Rychel said. "He has a bright future as a Spitfire and he'll be a special player for years to come."

Vilardi says he's looking to make an immediate impact.

"I think I have high expectations," he said. "I want to help the team do well this year. Make the playoffs. Hopefully do well in the playoffs. I can see myself putting up a lot of points in this league in the next two years. Hopefully get drafted."

BACKGROUND
Vilardi was named Ontario East Minor Hockey League Player of the Year in 2014-15.

The 6'2, 185-pound centre played last season at the Canadian International Hockey Academy (CIHA) minor midget team in based in Rockland.

Vilardi was among seven players from across the province to receive player-of-the-year awards, announced by the Ontario Hockey League in March.

In 21 games, he scored 18 goals and added 21 assists. Vilardi - the younger brother of Franceso Vilardi, a forward with the Flint Firebirds - also lead Team Ontario's gold medal winning entry at last season's Canada Winter Games with five goals and 12 points in six games.

HEADED TO U17 EVALUATION CAMP
Vilardi and fellow Spitfires rookie, goalie Mike DiPietro, will be headed to Calgary late next month to Hockey Canada's Under-17 summer evaluation camp, which runs July 29th to August 4th.

Logan Brown is also set to showcase his skills at the Under-18 camp; also in Calgary from July 31st to August 4th.
