Murphy scores game winner in debut as Spits edge Spirit 2-1
Trevor Murphy is pictured in this file photo from the U-17 tourney last December. The tournament was held in Windsor.

Windsor - November 24, 2012 - Just 24 hours after he was acquired from the Peterborough Petes, Windsor native Trevor Murphy scored the game-winning goal, as the Spitfires edged the Saginaw Spirit 2-1 on Friday night in front of 5,749 at the WFCU Centre.

Tied at 1-1 late in the third period, the 17-year-old defenceman took a nifty pass from Josh Ho-Sang before sneaking a low slapshot past Saginaw goalie Jake Paterson with just 2:17 to play.

Jaroslav Pavelka did the rest, making 43 saves on the night for his 10th win of the season.

Emerson Clark had the other goal for Windsor (10-10-1-4), which moved two points up on Saginaw and within three of Plymouth for top spot in the tightly-bunched West Division.

Justin Kea had the only goal for Saginaw (10-13-2-1) which dropped its second game in eight days in Windsor.

The Spits are back at in on Sunday afternoon (2:05 PM), as the Kingston Frontenacs come to town.
