Montreal - Aug. 25, 2011 - THE TEAM 990 announced today broadcaster John Bartlett has been named the voice of the Montreal Canadiens and will call play-by-play for the station's full slate of games. THE TEAM 990 became the home of the Montreal Canadiens earlier this year when it acquired exclusive English radio broadcast rights to all of the Montreal Canadiens games in a landmark seven-year deal.

"John is one of the rising stars in Canadian sports broadcasting, combing energy and enthusiasm with an incredible wealth of first hand hockey experience," said Wayne Bews, General Manager of THE TEAM 990. "His passion and close personal connection to the Canadiens will translate into a fantastic experience for fans."

Bartlett has a wide range of radio and television broadcasting experience. A former junior "A" goaltender, Bartlett spent the past six years as the broadcaster for the Toronto Marlies, the Toronto Maple Leafs AHL affiliate.

In 2007, Bartlett received the James H. Ellery Memorial Award in recognition of his outstanding media coverage of the American Hockey League. Prior to working with the Marlies, Bartlett was the voice of the Barrie Colts of the OHL for five seasons. John has also been a regular host on Leafs TV, and has made regular appearances on TSN's Off the Record with Michael Landsberg.

Born in Kingston and raised in Newmarket, Bartlett is a lifelong Canadiens fan who has extensive personal ties in the Montreal community.

"It has always been my dream to be the voice of the Montreal Canadiens, and something I will now carry forward with much pride and respect," said Bartlett. "My family comes from Montreal and many of my fondest hockey memories come from attending Habs games at the Forum with my father and grandfather. Today, there is absolutely nothing in the hockey world like the atmosphere at the Bell Centre and I can't wait to get to work and bring fans all of the excitement on THE TEAM 990"

THE TEAM 990 will announce its colour analysts in the coming weeks.
