Cornwall - Jun. 16, 2011 - Ontario is helping people of all ages and abilities in Cornwall improve and maintain their most valuable asset – their health.

Through the Healthy Communities Fund, the province helps local partners deliver programs for community members that promote physical activity, sport and recreation, healthier eating, injury prevention and mental health, as well as programs that address tobacco use and exposure, and alcohol and/or substance misuse.

In Cornwall, the province is helping the Centre de ressources familiales de l’Estrie, which is receiving $8,829, deliver innovative local health promotion programs for 2011- 12, such as:

  • Developing and implementing physical activity and culinary programming for children and youth attending day care centres and after-school programs in Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.

The McGuinty government is committed to helping Ontario families lead healthier lives through programs like the Healthy Communities Fund. More than 500,000 people across the province are expected to benefit from this year’s support.

“I was pleased to learn that the Centre de ressources familiales de l’Estrie will receive funding from the Healthy Communities Fund. This funding will assist this organization in teaching SD and G children and youth about the importance of healthy eating and physical activity, knowledge which will be useful to them throughout their lives. Our community’s children and youth will therefore greatly benefit from the programming made possible by this funding, and I thank the Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport for its commitment to the health and wellbeing of the residents of SD and G.," said Jim Brownell, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry
