Lancaster - Sep. 21, 2011 - An Ontario PC government will crack down on the unprecedented health care dollars wasted by the Dalton McGuinty Liberals. Money that should have gone to nurses, emergency rooms, and frontline patient care was instead diverted to bloated salaries and outrageous expenses for fancy health care consultants - many of whom were connected to the Liberal party. McGuinty’s eHealth waste included $10 million in sole-sourced deals directed to the Liberal-connected Courtyard Group.

An Ontario PC government will put patients at the centre of the health system by increasing annual investments by $6.1 billion by the end of our first term. We will crack down on Dalton McGuinty’s waste by reviewing eHealth and Ontario’s other 630 provincial agencies, boards, and commissions to eliminate waste.

Dalton McGuinty also wasted $300 million on the Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs). The LHINs are comprised of unelected, unaccountable regional health bureaucracies who don’t provide a single minute of patient care. Other LHIN waste included:

  • $300 million diverted from frontline care to fund more bureaucracy.

  • A 240% increase in the number of employees making over $100,000 annually (from 40 to 136) and 18 employees who make over $200,000 annually since 2006.

  • $7 million in untendered deals to consultants over a two year period, including contracts for Liberal friends who made millions in the billion dollar eHealth boondoggle.

  • Since 2006, the LHINs have diverted more than $37 million from front line care to consulting contracts.

An Ontario PC Government is committed to a publicly funded health care system for Ontario families. On October 6, 2011, vote Progressive Conservative.
