Gill named new head coach of OHL Frontenacs
Todd Gill is leaving the Brockville Braves' bench to take over as head coach of the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.

Cornwall - Apr. 26, 2011 - Things will look a bit different when the Colts take on their Highway 401 rivals from Brockville next season.

Former NHLer Todd Gill, the head coach of the Braves for the past five seasons, has been hired on as the new head coach of the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL.

Doug Gilmour had been handling the head coaching duties for Kingston, and the former Royal has been appointed general manager of the team.

Interestingly, Colts head coach Ian MacInnis' name had been mentioned in connection with the Frontenacs head coaching gig.

Gill has built the Braves into a perennial contender since buying the team in 2006. Despite moving on to the OHL, the Gill family plans to maintain full ownership of the Braves.

Jason Hawkins has been named the new general manager and head coach of the Braves, while Jamie Mayo will serve as an assistant coach and director of player development. Matt Ward will also join the Braves staff as an assistant coach, and Adam Gibson is joining the club as the video coach.

In other league news, the Pembroke Lumber Kings will be heading to Camrose, Alberta later this week to compete in the Royal Bank Cup after recently winning the Fred Page Cup (the eastern Canada Junior A championship).

Colts fans may still be a bit sour about the loss to the Lumber Kings in the league finals, but there is reason to cheer for Pembroke. It's been 35 years since a Central Canada Hockey League team won the national title.

The now-defunct Rockland Nationals won the national Junior A hockey championship in 1976, and it remains the only national title for the CCHL. Pembroke will be looking to change that when they travel to Alberta.
