Colts win big on the road
Colts forward Kyle Baun, pictured, connected for two goals on Friday night as Cornwall skated to a 7-1 win over the Hawkesbury Hawks.

Cornwall - Feb. 4, 2011 - Colts forward Kyle Baun has played hard around the net all season long, and that hard work paid off on Friday night.

The Scarborough native connected for two goals to help lead the Colts past the Hawkesbury Hawks in a dominant 7-1 road win at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex.

Baun's two-goal effort included the eventual game winner midway through the first period as well as the rubber goal early in the middle frame.

Francis Landers scored early on for the Hawks to tie the game at 1-1, but Baun's goals quickly shifted the game back in the Colts' favour, and they never looked back.

Jacob Laliberte and Mitch Zion each had a goal and three assists on the night, while Youssef Kabbaj and Tyson Spink also connected for Cornwall.

The Colts final goal came from 15-year-old call-up Lawson MacDonald of St. Andrews. It was his first goal with the Colts in just his second game with the team.

Pete Karvouniaris picked up his 36th win for the Colts in nets.

With the win, the Colts maintained a five-point edge over Pembroke for first overall in the league with a 43-9-1-0 record (87 points).

Cornwall will now prepare for a visit from the Nepean Raiders on Thursday at the Cornwall Civic Complex (7:30 p.m.).

In other action Friday night, Brockville beat Nepean 4-2, Kanata skated past Gloucester 4-2, Kemptville edged out Ottawa 3-2, Pembroke thumped Cumberland 9-0 and Carleton Place beat Smiths Falls 6-5.
