Cornwall - Apr. 9, 2011 - Golfer Chad Deneault and tri-sport athlete Casey Atwell were named the St. Lawrence College Cornwall Male and Female Athletes of the Year at the college's recent Athletic Banquet at the Ramada Inn and Conference Centre in Cornwall.

Deneault led the men's golf team carding a three-day total of 232 (+16) at the 2010 OCAA Championship, finishing atop the Division II leaderboard capturing the individual scoring title.

The Cornwall native registered an eagle and three birdies on the final day adding to the three birdies he tallied during the first two days of competition. Deneault became the first golfer in Sharks history to win the Division II scoring title.

As a tri-sport athlete, Atwell represented the Sharks in cross country, indoor soccer and hockey. Atwell's commitment to each squad was apparent. She attended all cross country races, and she was also a fierce competitor on the soccer pitch and played in all 15 games for the hockey team.

As one of the soccer team's leading scorers, Atwell put in a four-goal performance at the OCAA East Regional, almost carrying the Sharks to the OCAA Championships.

Mid-way through the evening, a special recognition ceremony was held for the Sharks men's hockey team, who won the 2010-11 Challenge Cup, the Ontario Colleges Committee on Campus Recreation's (OCCCR) most prestigious award in the sport.

Other notable award winners included cross country head coach Joe McNamara, who was named Varsity Coach of the Year. Men's indoor soccer's Mike Lott earned the Brown's Fine Food's award, while cross country's Brittny McBride received the SLC Athletics Student Life Award. The Student Union Academic and Athletic Excellence award was divvied up among three varsity athletes in Francisco Gomez (indoor soccer), Khadijah Vakily (cross country) and Joanna Buhr (indoor soccer).

The evening celebration began with a private reception recognizing the graduating Class of 2011.
