OUR PAST - The Roosevelt International Bridge
Cornwall - Apr. 6, 2011 - Each week OurHometown.ca will post an old photo from our area. This week we are featuring a a photo of the old Roosevelt International Bridge that pre-dated the present high-level crossing in Cornwall.
This photo offers a bird's eye view of the bridge looking northeast towards the old Domtar mill site and the old Cornwall canal.
The bridge could swing open to allow ships to pass through the canal. The span was eventually replaced by the new high-level crossing in the 1960s, and in the years to come, the current span will be replaced by a new low-level crossing to Cornwall Island.
