Cornwall - August 27, 2015 - Cornwall Curling Centre will present 19th Annual AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Curling Classic taking place at the Cornwall Curling Centre from September 17 through September 20.

Thirty-six of the top Curling teams from across Canada, Scotland, Switzerland, Sweden and Korea will converge on Cornwall’s Curling Centre from Sept. 17 - 20, 2015 to participate in the 19th Annual AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Curling Classic, a World Curling Tour event presented by VIA Rail Canada.

The event, which for the past 18 years had been hosted in Brockville, will be hosted here in Cornwall for the first time due to mechanical issues arising with the ice plant in neighboring Brockville. This event, the longest running event on the World Curling Tour, will feature the who’s who of the Curling world and will be a chance for everyone in Cornwall to meet and see the greatest curlers in the world in a very personal setting.

The Men’s field includes 2014 Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs from Canada, the silver medalist David Murdoch from Scotland and the bronze medalist, Niklas Edin from Sweden. Additionally, the field will have other world champs and Brier champions such as Ontario’s Glenn Howard, Manitoba’s Jeff Stoughton (playing with Howard), Brad Gushue from Newfoundland, Quebec’s Jean Michel Menard, Nova Scotia’s Mark Dacey as well as other teams from Canada, Korea, Switzerland and the United States.

The Women’s side of the event will field Scottie Tournament of Hearts and World Championship teams, such as Jen Hanna (2005 Scottie Finalist), Sherry Middaugh, Allison Flaxey, and Marie-France Larouche.

The Men’s and Ladies’ event has a combined purse of $65,700 and represents valuable points for the Canadian teams looking to qualify for the 2017 Olympic Trials, which are scheduled for Ottawa.

Having an event like The Shorty in Cornwall gives everyone the opportunity to experience the calibre of curling which is on par with what you see at both national championship (The Brier & The Scottie) and international competitions (Olympics & World Championships). Everyone is encouraged to come out and watch the games, meet the teams, and enjoy the hospitality associated with an event of this magnitude.

Cornwall is fortunate to have an event like this - the strength of the field is a testament to the legacy that this event has created over the past 18 years. Shorty Jenkins was a pioneer in the curling world and the Brockville’s organizing committee’s hard work and dedication over the years has grown this event to a level that is recognized throughout the curling world. This event is an opportunity for Cornwall to show off our city and facilities to competitors from around the globe. The players are very accessible and enjoy meeting and talking to people from the area.

This is the 19th year for the event. The AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic will take place at the Cornwall Curling Centre beginning on Thursday, Sept. 17th at 4:00 p.m. and will continue through to Sunday, September 20th with the final match at 3:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

As in past years, there will be a silent auction running Friday and Saturday, with the proceeds going to the Alzheimer Society on behalf of Shorty Jenkins. Shorty jerseys will be on sale as a limited edition.
