Pansies
One of the most delightful and standout flowers is the pansy. Pansies come in solid colours, as well as having painted faces with dark splotch centers and lines coming from their centers. Their overlapping petals have a lovely delicate look, but at the same time they are very expressive. Some types can sport tiny flowers while others have huge blooms.

Cornwall - April 9, 2012 - One of the most delightful and standout flowers is the pansy. Pansies come in solid colours, as well as having painted faces with dark splotch centers and lines coming from their centers. Their overlapping petals have a lovely delicate look, but at the same time they are very expressive. Some types can sport tiny flowers while others have huge blooms. Eight photographs are displayed.

Pansies are generally thought of as an annual flower, but they can rejuvenate themselves and bloom the following year as well, if the winter isn’t too harsh for the plants.

They can be grown from seed, but it is more practical to buy them as plants from local garden centers or outlets in the late spring or early summer. I favour the bushier stocky plants as they tend to be stronger and take hold quicker when set in the garden, planters, and urns.

Pansies look impressive along a border, or planted in groups in the garden. They grow about 10 inches in height, and can spread from 10 to 12 inches wide. They like sun, but seem to adapt a little better in partial shade.

They grow well all summer into the late fall. Their blooming time will be extended if they are kept watered, and the dead flowers are pinched from the plants.

Onlookers will always provide glowing comments when they see pansies.
