Counter point to Chris' post about major/minor teams.
The way I see it, having the minors absolutely weakens the major teams. You focus on McDavid/Matthews/Holtby but at the other end there are players kept that get sent back to the AHL and by having to field a minor team, you then lack sufficient players to stock the major team with NHL active players.
For example, in my case Chabot and Theodore have been sent back to the AHL. I have 7 D, 3 of which were drafted last week. 2 of the drafted D have to dress in the minors, only leaving me with 1 NHL active D to replace the 2 sent to minors. So my major team will be weakened because to be roster compliant in both the only way I can is to dress an AHL playing D for my major team.
I'm not complaining, I'm just giving counter point. You are focusing on only 1 thing stating it protects the integrity of the majors, I don't think it does what you think. It sure isn't for me but again, I'm not complaining. I'm building through the draft and letting players season, I did expect I could have problems with this.
