Proposal for 2013-14 Season

Postby Glenn_Austen on April 8th, 2013, 12:54 pm

Hi gents,

I have a proposal I would like to see be put up for consideration for addition to our constitution. I think it has the potential to add even more drama to our league in the form of another "race" as each season draws to a close.

Currently, we have prizes for division winners (380 X 6), division runners up (190 X 6) and Ronzo cup winner (120 X 1).

I love our 24 team format, and that we have 6 divisions, however, outside of begin able to offer a "tip of the hat" to past pools, our two conferences have no real function other than a symbolic one. I have a proposal that would give owners the possibility of winning a conference title in addition to a division banner and the Ronzo cup, making for three levels of success along the lines of the real NHL.

I think it would be neat to create a "race" for a conference champion in addition to having division winners and a Ronzo cup winner. It would add another level of excitement as even though division races might be sewn up, there could still be a race within each conference, as well as for the Ronzo cup.

My proposal would involve only very minor reductions to the amount of monies won by division winners and runner ups in order to have some funds allocated for conference champions, and is laid out as follows:

Current prize structure

Division winners (380 X 6 = 2,280)
Division runners up (190 X 6 = 1,140)
Ronzo cup champ (120)

Proposed prize structure (2013-4)

Division winners (360 X 6 = 2,160)
Division runners up (180 X 6 = 1080)
Conference champion (100 X 2 = 200)
Ronzo cup champ (100)

The difference in $ for the division winners and runners up is minimal, while the Ronzo cup winner gets a bit more for winning the big prize virtue of adding a conference title, and with the added prize of a 2nd conference title up for grabs,
we get another race to keep things interesting. If the season ended today, for example, the Mission would win their division, win their conference and win the Ronzo cup, while the Melonheads would win their division and have the Ronzo conference title as a consolation prize for finishing a close 2nd in the league.

Let me know what you think, and perhaps we can bring it to a vote in the "offseason" (There is no offseason!) :)

As we have learned, it is tough to find a Summer Meeting date where we can get all 24 of us in a room. As such, this almost becomes a two part question:

1) Are you okay with proposals being voted on in the Forum instead of at a Summer Meeting? Conditons - 1) a proposal must be moved and seconded by two owners, 2) for it to pass, a total of thirteen owners or more must register their vote in favour of the proposal and 3) any proposal must be for the subsequent season and not the current one.
2) If we assume that number one passes, I am prepared to second Glenn's motion and vote in favour of the quesiton: Are you in favour of the X-Men's proposal to create on Conference race to begin in 2013-14?

Please record your votes for #1 and #2 below....

BEAST Repsonse...

I believe that the way things are now with divisions and overall winner is fine, no need to change a good thing.
As for voting on proposals via the forum, I thought that the Skype method and having everyone together but not necessarily together worked well. I think that voting on proposals without discussion, real verbal discussion might be difficult and take more time.

The Beast vote no for both proposals.

I am perfectly fine with changing the prize money slightly to reward the conference winners with a small bonus as well.

As for proposal number two, I really enjoy a proper discussion, in person. It's far more effective than emails and even conference calls (skype). However, that being said I understand that with a few of our league members now living a long distance away this not easily done. I am okay with Glenn's idea to try and hammer things out on the forum.

I hope everyone enjoys the final weeks of the regular season.
