Hi gents,
I have a proposal I would like to see be put up for consideration for addition to our constitution. I think it has the potential to add even more drama to our league in the form of another "race" as each season draws to a close.
Currently, we have prizes for division winners (380 X 6), division runners up (190 X 6) and Ronzo cup winner (120 X 1).
I love our 24 team format, and that we have 6 divisions, however, outside of begin able to offer a "tip of the hat" to past pools, our two conferences have no real function other than a symbolic one. I have a proposal that would give owners the possibility of winning a conference title in addition to a division banner and the Ronzo cup, making for three levels of success along the lines of the real NHL.
I think it would be neat to create a "race" for a conference champion in addition to having division winners and a Ronzo cup winner. It would add another level of excitement as even though division races might be sewn up, there could still be a race within each conference, as well as for the Ronzo cup.
My proposal would involve only very minor reductions to the amount of monies won by division winners and runner ups in order to have some funds allocated for conference champions, and is laid out as follows:
Current prize structure
Division winners (380 X 6 = 2,280)
Division runners up (190 X 6 = 1,140)
Ronzo cup champ (120)
Proposed prize structure (2013-4)
Division winners (360 X 6 = 2,160)
Division runners up (180 X 6 = 1080)
Conference champion (100 X 2 = 200)
Ronzo cup champ (100)
The difference in $ for the division winners and runners up is minimal, while the Ronzo cup winner gets a bit more for winning the big prize virtue of adding a conference title, and with the added prize of a 2nd conference title up for grabs,
we get another race to keep things interesting. If the season ended today, for example, the Mission would win their division, win their conference and win the Ronzo cup, while the Melonheads would win their division and have the Ronzo conference title as a consolation prize for finishing a close 2nd in the league.
Let me know what you think, and perhaps we can bring it to a vote in the "offseason" (There is no offseason!)
